This is the second release that I have had the pleasure of reviewing from Isle of Wight star on the rise Lauran Hibberd but it’s a great entry point for any newcomers to the alt-pop singer-songwriter. New track ‘Sugardaddy’ has the kind of punk-pop bounce about it that you might expect from Charly Bliss or Kate Stapley but there’s also a pig-tail twirling, bubblegum blowing attitude that is somewhere between Brassy and Princess Superstar. The choppy guitars and crashing drums create the perfect bed for Hibberd to spin her yarn of having a relationship with an older man for financial security. This is one of those cases where the ingredients feel like they shouldn’t work but the resultant dish is not only delicious but also incredibly Moorish. Nomanomanom.
