for this release has introduced me to a new word: ukeleleist. Fortunately,
there is more. Santa Monica’s Jessica Gerhardt has created new single ‘Be my
Hands’ which is a song of two personalities with the first being a dark,
sinewy, almost trip-hop inspired verse that shudders in the shadows and craves
the warmth that it cannot reach. On the flip-side of this coin is the chorus,
full of light, hope and a fresh energy borne out of blending folk melodies with
more contemporary melodies. Running throughout this is Gerhardt’s free and
meandering voice dripping in soul, feeling and beauty. And she’s a renowned ukeleleist
too.
