Canadian outfit The Lad Classic
pulled a blinder with their last album so I was excited to receive their new
single, ‘Figure It Out’. The distinctive vocals of Paul Stevens are right up
front and, in Stevens, the band have the kind of charismatic frontman that made
the likes of Aerosmith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers such globe straddling successes.
The band also feature an absolute beast of a rhythm section that snakes and grinds
like a two-headed beast with the body of a dragon and the heads of rabid dogs.
This is funkier than the band’s previous material but it’s not such an extreme
departure that you can’t connect it to their previous material. I still
maintain that the Lad Classic are one of the must urgent and vital rock bands
around at the moment so we’re just waiting for them to get taken on a world
tour with someone who can put an arm around them and a beer in their hands.
