As titles go, ‘1,000 Opera
Singers Working in Starbucks’ is up there for title of the year in terms of the
social commentary and image that it creates but how does the music stack up?
Let’s find out. London trio Wovoka Gentle (no idea either) have woven an
electro tapestry made of synths, thrown in a perky beat and sprinkled this with
camp-pop magic dust. We’re not quite in Mika territory here but certainly in
the vicinity Felix Hagan and the Family or Temposhark which is my kind of
country. Great title, great tune and confusing band name – I’ll take that.
