Canadian rockers the Dirty Nil are popping out one more single before their hotly anticipated new album later this year. ‘I Don’t Want That Phone Call’ might sound like a drawled, grunge’n’roll ramble but if you listen real hard then you’ll get the message. In amongst the pounding drums and swathes of distortion, the Dirty Nil are pleading for anyone out there abusing substances to just slow down and remember they’ve got a friend out there. “Listen up motherfucker I’m your friend” is the opening line to this beast and if ever I’m the subject of an intervention then I hope those are the first words spoken, then I’ll know I’m in good hands, in a safe space.
