It’s always slightly unsettling
when you get new music to review from an artist who was writing generation
defining songs before you were even born but I’m always glad when it is new
music and not just remastered material. That said, this new track from founding
member of the Kinks Dave Davies was written in the 70s but just never saw the
light of day…until now. ‘Same Old Blues’ has a deft touch on the blues chords
and a sense of the Clapton’s about but the chord progression also hints at the
kind of stuff Deep Purple took to a heavier place. Davies’ voice is perfect for
the genre and at a little over three minutes this comes in at a perfect length
to hook you in to new album ‘Decade’ due out in October. Some things are well
worth waiting for.
