It’s a sign of the times that when I opened up the video for this new release from the legendary Alice in Chains, I was initially met with the trailer for a Gordon Ramsey online cookery class. There was a time when TV chefs and hard-rock bands would be kept separate unless Alice Cooper was feeling whimsical during an after-show party. Nevertheless, this is the world we live in so let’s get on with listening to new single ‘Never Fade’, shall we? This latest release, coming mid stadium tour, is a dark, seething and winding beast built on driving drums and the kind of guitars that hit you like a wave of razor blades. The vocals sneer and jeer with antagonistic venom and you get the feeling this is not the kind of track you’d want to meet in a dark alley. Or a light alley for that matter.
