HYPNOSISTER – SINGLE REVIEW

Hypnosister – Scribbles
Hypnosister - Scribbles

Release Date: Out Now

Leeds kook Damien Hughes, for he is Hypnosister, looks exactly like the kind of guy I would have encountered in the back street indie clubs of Sheffield when I live there around the turn of the millennium and that might be what endears him to me so much. Then again, the music doesn’t do him any harm either and new single ‘Scribbles’ is a superb example of the musical trajectory that he is on. The anthemic indie guitars and hectic melodies that herald the opening of this track exist somewhere between the bombast of the Killers, the edginess of Talking Heads and the leftfield creativity of 90s bands like Ultrasound and White Town. This tune sees Hypnosister move on from the awkward machinations of a serial outsider to a sense of confidence, triumph and that feeling that you get at the end of a Hollywood film when the underdog gets the girl and the jock is left to rue his various dick moves. There’s a full EP on the way and on the evidence of this track it will be one to sit up and pay attention to.
