ACTIVE BIRD COMMUNITY – SINGLE REVIEW

Active Bird Community – Unwind with Me
Active Bird Community - Unwind with Me
(Barsuk Records)

Release Date: Out Now

When you hear that a band have been together since they were 11 it’s impressive but it’s even more impressive when that band are now in their 60s. I am, of course, kidding. I mean, just look at these guys, they don’t look a day over 47. No matter, coming straight outta Brooklyn, Active Bird Community bring us ‘Unwind with Me’ and my gut feeling is that this is where the Kings of Leon should have gone but they got too showbiz. “What’s the quota this month? How many lives will you disrupt?” goes the opening line as the band live out their lives in the back of a moving hire van. The guitars and just gorgeous and walk the beam between the punk aesthetic of the Ataris and the rock’n’roll ambition of KoL and the Killers but with an almost British sense of despair thrown in for good measure. This is tightly strung stuff but I can’t get enough of it in the way that I fell in love with Idlewild all those years ago because of their sheer and complete sense of tension that came out of every note.
