Well, here it is. We’re weeks
away from the World Cup in Russia so it’s about time we had the first football
song of the year, isn’t it? Surprisingly, it comes courtesy of the Tallywags –
a supergroup featuring members of the Sex Pistols, the Wildhearts, 3 Colours
Red and the Men They Couldn’t Hang. Go figures. ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’
is firmly in the ‘Three Lions’/’Vindaloo’ camp of football song (no John Barnes
rap here) but it’s got a pleasing chug about it and a video that rights all the
wrongs of previous England exits from major footballing tournaments. On the
first listen I pretty much dismissed it but give it another spin and it holds
it’s own. It’s no Gazza or Waddle but as a Platt or a Hoddle this track has
plenty to offer the team…..Geoff.
