KERRY DEVINE – SINGLE REVIEW

Kerry Devine – Ariel
Kerry Devine - Ariel

Release Date: Out Now

When historians look back on the music of the early 21st century I think one of the things they’ll note is evolution of folk music. There are a slowly emerging group of artists, Kerry Devine being one of them, who are producing music based on a folk aesthetic but instead of mandolins and zithers, they’re using beats and processed melodies as their melodic vehicle. This track, ‘Ariel’, is a sublime, pre-dawn cut of ethereal folk set to the kind of ambient melody you’d expect to hear on an Above & Beyond chill-out track or a Portishead comeback single. If you like breathy female vocals and uber-relaxed beats sprinkled with birdsong and the kind of melodies that exist between sleep and consciousness then you’re in for a treat.
