I fell in love with this song
with such immediacy that I didn’t even think to look up who was behind such
sweet and sombre music. Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders (for it is they) hail
from Australia and new single ‘White Flag’ is ripe for wallowing in, if the
mood takes you. The beat and pace of this is all about Sunday mornings or, at
the very least, picking yourself up out of the debris of party from the night
before. Ladder’s voice exists in the Nick Cave meets Matt Berninger part of the
world that envelopes you in comfort and warmth – when he sings “I surrender,
and this love goes on forever” I defy anyone not to go a little bit weak at the
knees. This is a genuinely beautiful and heartwarming song about love and loss
which I can implore you to put in your ears.
