MARIAN HILL – SINGLE REVIEW

Marian Hill – Subtle Thing
Marian Hill - Subtle Thing

Release Date: Out Now

Aside from having one of the creepiest Facebook pages I’ve seen in a while (seriously, check it out), Philadelphia duo Marian Hill have been busy working on new material and new single ‘Subtle Thing’ is the latest fruit of that particular labour. The disconcerting bass noise that underpins this track is soon joined by percussive noises made from spoons and vocals pops that are so organic as to be completely at odds with the sophisticated and slick production. This is sensual, late-night music which is designed to speak to your primal, baser instincts but still with great clothes and good wine. The soft, intimate vocals of Samantha Gogol distract you from the out-and-out weirdness of the video but what you can’t ignore is the infectious nature of this track which is, with no sense of irony, subtly effective.
