X AMBASSADORS - SINGLE REVIEW

X Ambassadors – Joyful (Kidinakorner/Interscope Records)

X Ambassadors - Joyfu

Release Date: Out Now

I only discovered X Ambassadors at the tail end of 2017 but they are fast becoming one of my favourite new (to me) bands. It’s the fact that they look so unlikely as a band but also that they have a talent for emotionally fuelled soulful music that cuts me to the quick. Latest release ‘Joyful’ is so good that when I first heard it I assumed it to be a cover of an Elton John track that I wasn’t aware of. But it’s not, it’s just that the delicate piano, string section, gorgeous vocal, gospel choir and building arrangement sounds like the output of a seasoned and battle-hardened musician. Oh, and if you’ve never seen an amazing vocalist with a bald head, full beard, gold chains and a sharp step off the mic, strap on a sax and blast out a solo then you need to check out the video. Step forward Mr Sam Harris, you absolute God of a man you.
