There’s something about the
combination of the words ‘New York’, ‘Art’ and ‘Punk’ that will always whet my
appetite. Big Apple quartet The Nectars come with those specific labels and a
glorious new single in the shape of ‘Heaven’. There are elements of Paramore
and We Are Scientists in the structure as well Imogen Heap, Belly and early No
Doubt in the energy which draws you in to a world that is spikily punky but
also has the artistic tendancies of Muse at their most pumped up. There’s a
sumptuous quilt of organ wrapped around this melting pot of influences that it
feels like you’re standing in New York (the world’s greatest melting pot) on a
cold night staring up at the streetlights.
