PIP HALL – SINGLE REVIEW

Pip Hall – Ill At Ease (My Little Empire Records)
Pip Hall - Ill At Ease

Release Date: Out Now

It’s not remotely surprising that a teenage songwriter, such as Pip Hall, would write a song about the not uncommon sensation of feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious within the skin you’re given. What is surprising, however, is the comprehensive and consistent grace that runs through ‘Ill At Ease’, the new single from teenage talent Pip Hall. The guitars roll and strut with the kind of assuredness you get from walking down a familiar street in the sunshine in your best clothes. Now, to counterpoint that, Hall’s vocal is underplayed and self-conscious, occupying the territory where you might expect to find Belly or Beth Orton in all their shuffling glory. That grace that I mentioned earlier is the key here though and while Hall may not be sure of herself right now but there’s no doubting that she has talent in spades. Most excitingly she has the time to explore that talent and a label that will allow her to do that – an incredibly rare combination these days.

Live Dates:

19th December – The Lock Tavern, London
