MANIC STREET PREACHERS – SINGLE REVIEW

Manic Street Preachers – International Blue (Columbia/Sony)
Manic Street Preachers - International Blue

Release Date: Out Now

They might be starting to resemble a group of Welsh dads who have a point to prove and a score to settle but the Manic Street Preachers still have a lot to offer the music world. This is the first single from a new album coming in 2018 and it’s cut from the same stone as other recent Manics releases – Welsh Granite probably. The guitars on ‘International Blue’ are razor sharp and lightning quick as this track taps in to a raw energy that these three gents seem to have a monopoly on to this day. There’s a nice little piano riff in the middle-eight that erupts in to a huge, riff-heavy chorus that speaks of escapism, optimism and a sense of freedom that is in short supply these days. I fully expect the new album to have a political charge to it, but it feels as though this track is the relief piece that fits in to that particular jigsaw.
