IDLES - SINGLE REVIEW

Idles - Mother
Idles - Mother

Release Date: Out Now

Bristolians Idles are so hot right now, so hot it hurts to look at them for too long. But, and this is crucial, you need to look….and listen. Turn off ‘I’m loosely connected to a celebrity (whatever that means)’ and feast your senses on new single ‘Mother’. “My mother worked 15 hours 5 days a week, my mother worked 16 hours 6 days a week, my mother worked 17 hours 7 days a week, the best way to scare a Tory is to read and get rich”, and so it begins. Musically, this is brutal guitar pop with the energy of Reuben, the rawness of At The Drive-In and the sheer power of Rocket from the Crypt. There is no way on earth that these guys are now awesome live but they haven’t just gone for a straight up live video, oh no sir. No, the script for the video is to hire out an empty warehouse, by all the cheap china tat from charity shops, dress head to toe in pink and then smash up the aforementioned china as both punctuation and an unheard, subconscious level of vocal to emphasise the rage at the state of the world. The hype is deserved but it’s just hype until people get behind it, then it becomes a movement.
