SMILESWITHTEETH – SINGLE REVIEW

Smileswithteeth – We Fight In the Prettiest Places (Knowmad Records)
Smileswithteeth - We Fight In The Prettiest Places

Release Date: Out Now

I can’t work this one out. This is either hilarious, surreal, ingenious or just plain bonkers. The trick, I’ve found, is to stop trying to figure it out and just enjoy it for whatever the fuck it is - which, in case you're wondering, is new single 'We Fight In The Prettiest Places'. Smileswithteeth is a Montreal based producer who likes to mix hectic 90s beats (replete with ‘Whoo, Yeah’ vocal interjections) with trippy, Lemon Jelly-esque melodies and David Kitt jangly acoustic guitar lines. I say he likes to do that but his press blurb talks a lot about Iceland (the country, not the scabby supermarket) and the split with his girlfriend so may be this is just the most tripped out and funky break-up tune ever. Is Break-up breakbeat a thing? It is now.
