JOSEFIN OHRN + THE LIBERATION - SINGLE REVIEW

Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation - Take Me Beyond (Rocket Recordings)
Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation - Take Me Beyond

Release Date: 30th October 2015

Josefin Ohrn is making big waves in Sweden and those waves are being felt over here in the UK as BBC 6 Music has already started backing her for greater things. This new single, 'Take Me Beyond', is a precursor to an album due in November and on this evidence there is a lot to look forward to.  Atmospheric, Anna Calvi-esque guitars open proceedings before a Stooges style garage thud starts up with the spirit of Jim Morrison flailing his arms in the background. There is an itchy urgency to the music that is calmed by Ohrn's dusky voice as you might expect an experienced cowboy to calm a stampede of wild horses. Ohrn has a captivating voice that, when coupled with the raw but perfect music of the Liberation, blends ying and yang, city and country, fire and ice or heaven and hell. This music exists in the join between things, that thin line between love and hate but I think you'll fall down on the side of love if you know what's good for you.
