SKY VALLEY MISTRESS - SINGLE REVIEW

Sky Valley Mistress - Dirty Blonde Blues (Holy Roller Records)
Sky Valley Mistress - Dirty Blonde Blues

Release Date: 23rd June 2014

Sky Valley Mistress really ought to come from down town LA instead of the Blackburn-Manchester area with a name like that and the swaggers, high heeled rock'n'roll they peddle does nothing to dispel that notion. 'Dirty Blonde Mistress' starts off as a sultry if a little timid piece of blues rock'n'roll which feels like the band haven't quite got the guts to keep up with the ball busting voice of Kayley 'Hell Kitten' Davies. But then, oh my, then. At around three minutes, the guitars get turned up, the chains come off the drummer (named Maxwell Harvey William Newsome III, by the way) and Kayley's  voice goes up to another level of power. It's QOTSA, it's the Dead Weather, it's the White Stripes, it's Band Of Skulls and it's basically pretty ace. I think there's more to come from these and I'm glad to see them out on a fairly extensive tour this summer so that they can really get their sound slick and sexy.
