MANOU - SINGLE REVIEW

Manou - We Are
Manou - We Are

Release Date: June 2014

17 year old German popstress Sophie Manou plays piano, sings and is surely set to clean up in the wake of the likes of Lorde, Lykke Li and Robyn. Although currently based in London, Manou's 'We Are' is a call to arms for the disaffected youth of the world but it's not angry or violent and that makes it all the more intriguing. The repeated refrain of "We are never gonna be like you" feels like a statement to the mainstream that the way things have been happening for years has to change and there is nothing any government can do about it. It has a nice end of school feel to it and you can imagine a bunch of teenagers nonchalantly swaggering out of the school gates this summer to the tune of 'We Are' ready to make a difference and have some fun while they do it. The music might be laid back, chilled out pop but the message is so much more than that. Politipop might just be the genre of the summer.
