Unassuming talent Jamie Hamilton
is back with new single ‘Letters to a Younger You’ and it is a real oasis of
calm in an otherwise tumultuous world. Hamilton’s skill lies in the subtlety of
his tones and the skittish nature of his beats which combine to create these
dreamy soundscapes atop which he can nervously yet charmingly deliver his
lyrics. The sensitivity of the writing combined with the wide vistas of the
arrangement puts me in mind of Jamie Yost or Drakes Island as part of a growing
movement in which artists take their time and are only restricted by the size
and shape of their imaginations and ambitions. In fact, ‘quietly ambitious’ is
probably a good way to describe this music and I’m pretty sure it was a phrase
used in a school report I had back along.
